Police in Mityana District are investigating a serious road accident involving a Link Bus Company vehicle that left at least 14 passengers injured on Saturday night.
The accident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. on October 25, 2025, at Kikandwa along the Kampala–Hoima highway, when a bus registration number UBH 919D Isuzu, traveling from Hoima to Kampala, overturned after the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a corner.
According to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, preliminary findings attribute the accident to over-speeding.
“Our investigations show that the bus was being driven at a very high speed. When the driver reached Kikandwa, he failed to properly negotiate a corner, lost control, and the bus veered off the road before overturning,” said SP Kawala.
Police and rescue teams from Mityana Central Police Station (CPS) and local health facilities rushed to the scene, providing emergency support to the injured.
The victims were taken to Bukomero Health Centre IV and Kikandwa Health Centre, among other narby facilities.
The injured passengers were identified as CPL Sarah Namukose, 50, a police officer attached to Kagadi Police Station; Nulu Mutesi, 59, a pastor from Seguku, Kajjansi; Rev. Timothy Kisananu, a Congolese national; Joseph Ikoman, 57, Congolese national; and Tracy Murungi, 29, resident of Nansana.
Also injured were Jasenta Namatovu, 32, from Kiboga District; Beatrice Shakira Katushabe, 20, student from Kabwoya, Kikuube; Alfred Kabagambe, 43, mechanic from Nansana, Wakiso; Grace Agondeza, 27, from Wakiso; and Tracy Nabalwanyi, 20, from Bwaise, Kawempe.
Others are Sandra Bukirwa, 24, from Wambogo, Kawempe; Lisa Keitesi, 40, from Seguku, Katale; David Apil, 25, carpenter from Kawempe; and Monica Akao, 19, from Kawempe.
SP Kawala said efforts are ongoing to identify any additional victims and ensure they receive medical attention.
“We thank the local community and emergency responders who acted swiftly to rescue the passengers. We are also working closely with health facilities to monitor the victims’ recovery,” she added.
Police have since cautioned motorists to observe traffic regulations, emphasizing that over-speeding, dangerous overtaking, and careless driving remain leading causes of accidents on major highways.
“We continue to appeal to all road users, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to drive responsibly. Over-speeding and distractions such as using mobile phones while driving endanger lives,” SP Kawala warned.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the wreckage of the bus has been towed to Mityana Police Station for inspection by traffic experts.
